TREES

a new beginning

Keywords: tree, reflection, nature, spiritual, light, visible-invisible, nothing exists without an observer

Description

I entitle the series " A New Beginning" because it is a new starting point in my life. I have been always inspired by nature. I explore its great mysteries. Here, the tree in its absence is totally present. The quest is spiritual and the path luminous. What does the photograph show and that which is not there still? In other words, when the invisible meets the visible, and absence is presence.

A. WHEN I LOOK UP

I photograph where I am. Everyday life, the environment and habits are my laboratory for observation and action: ordinary, simple, accessible. Behind each photograph, there is a particular attention, a love leaning towards the sacred, the subtle, what passes, and this suspension in time and space that moves.

B. THE TREE

The tree today? The tree, although absent, shines in the flow of sand, the reflection on a pond, the dark holes in the ground, the lines cast on the ground. Disappearance and transformation.

Emblematic, the tree is our link with the universe.

I have an affinity for the beaten ground where things take root. Sand, gravel, needle or water are all pretexts for a photographic meditation. I have no preconceived ideas, the series comes as it develops. I diligently and repetitively keep as close to the subject as possible until something happens.

C. TECHNIQUE AND CREATIVE PROCESS AT THE SERVICE OF EXPRESSION

The micro-series, with the exception of the cover, belongs to an old batch of b&w negatives, developed and scanned by myself then digitally processed. From shooting to acquisition, through development, exposure and processing, each step is an integral part of the creative process.

I believe in the basics: attention to, and perfection of, tiny details that might be commonly overlooked. They may seem trivial, perhaps even laughable to those who don’t understand, but they are not. They are fundamental to your progress (…), business and life. » John Wooden

Here is

° 5 color digital files from a 35 mm b&w film + a direct scan (cover)

° acquisition: the raw scan with its imperfections - dust, scratches, non-flatness, etc. - is also a surface where things happen; random failures, lags or bugs - which are not - enrich the process

° the fringe of the negative defines not only the edge of the image, but also its space.

The work is never done. It is set in a bigger picture; there is something about being in doing. I return again and again to photography for its openness, its unexpected results, its great mystery and above all, its JOY.
